Kawaii!!

I saw a TV programme about Japanse culture in other countries.
Among them,it's interesting that some French people use Japanese word 「Kawaii」.
[Kawaii] means pretty,cute,adorable.
However,Japanese young girls say [Kawaii] for a lot of things.
Perhaps,it imply many meaning as young girls...for exsmaple COOL,INTERSTING and so on.

There is new young slang, Kimo-Kawaii.
This word is unite [Kimoi] with [Kawaii].
Actually,Kimoi means CREEPY,DISGUSTFUL,UNPLEASANT...haha...Yes,Kimo-Kawaii means creepy BUT pretty.
It's such a strange word!
Please don't use this slang in formal situation! :P

It means chortle,laugh,smile...
When we write that in Japanse,(笑).
[笑] this KANJI means chortle, laugh, smile and read [Warai].
And then,we write only the first letter [W].
I guess that firstly, people want to explain quickly in chat and game.
So,they had choice only one letter.
And then,we use it in blog and something NET place. (It's only casual situation.)

For exsample...
 昨日は自転車でこけた。w
 今日は車にひかれた。ww

So,it was decided to give birth by cesarean 6th September.
However,we didn't know the baby is boy or girl.
It's very big point.
Because,BOY (Man) hasn't born in 41 years.
So now the baby is the 3rd heir to the Chrysanthemum [Imperial] Throne.
Many Japanese have got celebratory atmosphere.

Information about his birth.

The team got the victory with senior high school baseball summer championship this year and he did particularly well!!

He is called as ハンカチ王子[Hankachi-Ouji].
It means a prince of handkerchif.
Why people called it?
Because,he wiped the perspiration off his face in games.
It's unusual.
I think because, high school player into baseball deepley and behave like a man.
So,it was something fresh that his act like a gentleman. haha.
Some of his fan want to buy same handkerchif but stop production.

Hard Training

I saw a interesting TV program a few weeks ago.
It's about 安泰寺 [Antai-JI]. (Antaitemple)
Antai-Ji is in Hyogo prefecture in deep in the mountain.

The priest is a German man and several country's people perform the ascetic practices!!
WOW!! I was surprised it!!
Their practices is very hard.
They get up 3:45am and go to bet 9:00.
I guess winter season is very tough.
It might be hard than city side temples. haha.

I think that their life is simple and wonderful.
They just grow their own food and exist on that.
They've got fields.
They teach English for the neighbors.
It's very good for cultural exchange between Japan and non-Japanese countries.

Official site(You can choose from several language.)

You can watch comedy live show in Osaka every day!!
Now,comedy is a quite big boom in Japan.

That day,I went to Utubo Park(sorry,Japanese site).

I feel Osaka is interesting place but crowded and busy...but that park is very peaceful. Flowers and green...
There is a rose garden in there.(top's photo)
It was beautuful!!!!!
You can see many sort of rose.

Fortunately,[Flowers and Scluptures exhibition] was holding there.
I was lucky. (It finished now)
I put on two photos but there were a lot of art objects.
Art objects were in harmony with the park.

It was in golden week holidays.
You can see my profile photo,it was taken in last autumn in same park.
It was beautiful but spring view is beautiful as well.
Nature is wonderful and full of colour!!

And,what do you think of this photo?
It's こいのぼり [Koinobori] means carp streamers.
Actually,I went to there 5th May.
This day is Children's day.
It's also Tango No Sekku (Iris festival) which is a feastival for boy.
Why is for boy...Because there is girl's festival 3rd March.

Koinobori are hoisted on a high pole to celebrate the growth of the boys in the familiy on the day.
It's exhilarant to see it,isn't it?

Yellow sand

Wow!! This photo was taken 17th April (2006) in Beijin.(China)
Sandstorm coverd everuthing...
In Chinese big desert,a sandstorm rose up and then circumpolar westerlies bring it arounf China and Japan.
We call it 黄砂 [Kosa].
means yellow.
means sand.
Yes,Kosa come to Japan, especialy Spring time.
Unfortunately, this Spring has been coming STRONG Kosa.
Of course,it's not so strong as like China (like this photo).
Usually,it's coming in the west part of Japan and the sea of Japan side although 3days ago it came to Tokyo. It has been 6 years. You can see Yellowish Tokyo

Spring is good season although we have got something problem for health.
Because of pollen (Many Japanese people have a pollen allergy) and Kosa.
I guess so my allergy has been bad in this season.
Ummm...I don't like Spring!! but I like Sakura (cherry blossom),something beautiful neature ,good weather etc...

Actually,I wear sunglasses and a mask when I go to my office.

feeling...

I wrote about orz last post.
It's sort of emoticon.
Japanese emotions are great variety.
I have no idea how many are there. I think it's infinity!!
Many young people have a unique idea!!
New emoticon have been made day by day.
My mobile phone is a little bit old although,it has 99 kind of emoticons.

Today,I'd like to tell you one of common and old enotiocon.

m(_ _)m

What do you thik that?
We use it when want to apologize to someone.
Both of [m] are hands.
[(_ _)] is bow head (face). AN ANTERIOR VIEW.
This bowring is old style and very serious...
So,it's a rare that we do that in real life but we use this emoticon in e-mail...etc
For example...
Sorry,I can't go to your party.m(_ _)m

We feel that HOW TIME FLIES!! Junuary to March every year.
Because, there are lots of things to do...New year (starting work or school and so on),examination, graduation and most Japanese company settle accounts in March.
There is good expression word.
January 1月 [Ichi Gatsu] is Iku.
February 2月 [Ni Gatsu] is Nigeru.
March 3月 [San Gatsu] is Saru.
I Ku means GO.
Ni Geru means RUN AWAY.
Sa Ru means LEAVE.
It means January is GO! February is RUN AWY! March is LEAVE!

That's just word play!

The great consolidation

Japanese municipalities have been decreasing since 1999. (about 40%)
Why since 1999...Because,the government said that support finance if municipality consolidation 1999 to 31th March. (YES,the rest 2 days)
It's reason DEFICIT FINANCING in national and local.
So,The government want to clear it.
It's better that less municipality.
There is one more big reason.
Japanese population has been decreasing.
It meams no need many municipalities.

Just information...
We call 市町村 [Shi Cho Son] Japanese municipality.
Shi means city.
Cho means town.
Son means village.

Choiwaru?!

ちょいワルオヤジ [Choi Waru Oyaji].
It's quite new Japanese slang.
Choi means [a bit],[a little],[a few].
Waru means [bad (boy)],[juvenile],[misconduct].
Oyaji means [BIG BUDDY],[old man] and sometimes men call it for their father.
Yeah,it's strange word but actually good words for old men.
This word from one of Japanese magazine LEON.
The magagine said for old men that Be more BAD your clothes.
Because, many Japanese old men wear dark colour clothes. And,they don't care it much.
It's Okay but nothing special.
So,some old men have been tried to wear colourful or bad taste clothes.
I guess that fashion give women the willies. haha.
I think it's good that increasing fashionable OYAJI!!

TO BE BAD IS NOT BEHAVIOUR. IT'S ABOUT ONLY FASHION!!!!

Shunbun Day

Today is Japanese national holiday. (I haven't got a work! yahoo!)
We call the day 春分の日 [Shun Bun No Hi].
It means spring equinox day.
It's almost the same between day time and night time.
The day is dicided astronomically.
So,there is a case the day, wold be 20th March.

There is one more news,I'd like to write.
Japan got a victory WBC (World Baseball Classic) today!
I'm not interested in baseball but I'm glad that news.

3 days cold...

There is an expression word in this season.
三寒四温 [San Kan Shi On].
「三」means three.
「寒」means cold.
「四」means four.
「温」means warm.
It means 3 days cold and then 4 days warm.
Actually, this is a old the northeast of China and Korean peninsula word for the end of autumn to winter.
Siberia high atmospheric pressure makes this weather.

As for Japan,we use it for winter to early spring.
I think it's very good expression.
Because,in this season, the temperature swings wildly from hot to cold.
In fact, last weekend were quite hot day although now it's cold...
But,I feel that spring has been coming until here. haha.

I've just seen that a news programme said some cherry blossom come out in Kochi prefecture!! Wow!!

White Day

I wrote about Japanese funny anniversarys last post.
Today is White Day.
It's very common day in Japan.

Tha day is a man return gift to woman who gave to him chocolate at Valentin's Day.
In Japan, woman give chocolate to man at that day.
And,14th March man give something in return to woman.
What is a gift in that day?
Marshmallow,Candy,Chocolate...anything is Okay!! Sometimes add more. (Handkerchief, something lady's stuff and so on...)

That day is Japanese custom.
Firstly,candy/confectionery organization startd Candy Day in 1978.
And,it became White Day in 1980.
It has spread now!!

Yeah,firstly candy/confectionery's PLOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm looking forward to it today!! haha.

Friday, March 10, 2006

What day it is today?

I write about anniversary, annual events and national holiday sometimes.
Actually,each day has some like...anniversarys.
It's NOT all day are known.
Some of them are for only specific business circles.
Some of theme are just a funny PLAY ON WORDS!!!

I'm telling you examples...
Today is the day of SUGAR.
10th March,we write 3月 [month] 10日 [day].
3 is pronounced as SA.
10 is pronounced as TO.
Sugar...we say さとう [Sato] in Japanese.
So there you have it!!

And,it's funny. Yesterday is the day of THANK YOU.
9th March,we write 3月 [month] 9日 [day].
3 is pronounced also as SAN.
9 is pronounced as KYU.
So,SANKYU is pronounced as like Thank you!! haha.
I know Th is pronounced as not SA by English native speaker.
That's Japanese English pronunciation!! haha...

It's quite complex how to read numbers in Japanese.
Number's pronunciation change by waht is count...

Hina Matsuri

3rd March is day of ひなまつり [Hina Matsuri].
It's the Dolls Festival for girls.
Sorry,I was lazy...I should have writen this post 3rd March... I know already it's past this year.

For this festival,we display hina dolls, which are dolls attired in ancient court costume.
There is a something superstition that if not put away the dolls after the festival day, girls may be late in getting married. haha.
I guess my mother had put away hina dolls late before. Do you understand what I want to say? haha.

There is nothing special to do that day for me since I'm a grown-up.
But,there are someting events in kindergarten etc. And,the girl in the family celebrate with a special food or something...

Kurashiki

My friend Shane came to Japan again.
And,we could around Okayama.

We went to 倉敷 [Kurashiki] .
Kurashiki is one of a city in Okayama prefecture.
←This area is we call 美観地区 [Bikan Ti(Chi?)ku].
It means keep and control the beauties of town.
Some old buildings are keeping there...
I guess that non Japanese people are interested in that area. Aren't you?

There is 備前 [Bizen] city in Okayama.
And,it's famous Bizen ware in Japan.
It was funny that the cats made from Bizen ware.
Do you like them?

There is that building in one of shrine in Kurashiki.
Actually,I'm no sure what sort of building it is.
However,I know that it's very old and traditional.
If you want to pray to God (must be Japanese. haha) something, you should go there!!

Kurashiki is a very small area.
You can around there easily.
But,it's interesting area.

Her performance was so great. Did you see it?
We were exciting it. Because,Japan had no any medal until then...haha.

By the way,Italian newspaper said she is beautiful!!
Many Italian men like her face...
I think her face is little bit old Japanese taste.
And,perhaps European men are interested in oriental taste...righ??

Any way,The Olympic will soon be over.
You should support for your country!!

Probably, men golf player have trouble concentrating.
But,all player use it importantly...

I like these silly invension products!!!

Do you like them??

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Hello!!
Today is Valentgine's day.
I think there is difference that day Japan between other countries.
In Japan,a woman can send chocolates to a man,she attracted to...

Moreover,there is adult(?) custom.
We call 義理 [Giri] chocolate.
Giri means something bond,obligation...
Women's office worker give chocolates to men's cowoker, friends and something...
You might think a man get the wrong idea?? Man might think she loves me?? haha.
It's Okay. We know that custom. And,a lots of type chocolates in many shops in this season...
There are many many chocolates for Giri.
For exsample,cheap,funny...I'd like you to see chocolates floor at department store in this season. (It has been extending until today)
But,that custom has been not popular...

And it's chocolate boom now.
Some famous chocolate shops came mainly in Tokyo.
Many young women buy expensive it for themselfs.
So,Giri chocolate has been not poplur. haha.
←I bought this. I give you this chocolate to you!!
But,I'll eat it!! haha.

Any way,Happy Valentin's Day!!everyone

Happy News

We've got a happy news a few day ago...
Princess 紀子 [Kiko] is pregnate.
秋篠宮 Akishinomiya Imperial Prince 文仁 Fumihito and Princess Kiko have got 2 daughters now.

It's a very important that new baby is man or woman.
Because, there is a problem with title to the throne after The Prince Akishinomiya.
So far a woman can't get it.
It had been discussion about it at the Diet until that news came.
The primeminister Mr.Koizumi meant to give the title a woman.
But,now that discussion has been tabled.
A man hasn't been born in the Imperial family after Prince Akishinomiya was born for 41 years...

Any way,it's a very happy news.
We are glad.
Moreover,it has a great impact on the Japanese economy.
One of baby's products company's stock goes up 4%!!

I know that A woman can get title to the throne in some countries.
How about your country??

Have a nice day!!

Oni

I wrtote about Setsubun at last post.
は外! [Oni Wa Soto!]」I translated that into English 「Evil sprits out!!」
But,it's in this case...
There is a character we've got a image for Oni.
This photo is Setsubun enent with many kids.
You can see red Oni and green Oni.
They are not cool Oni although. haha.

Probably,Oni was from Chinese or Buddhism idea.
And then,it became Japanese character.
・There is a horn. (or some horns)
・They are shorts with a tiger pattern. haha.
・They've got a metal rod.

We've got a lot of idioms and proverb about Oni.
For example...「鬼の目にも涙 [Oni No Me Nimo Namida]」. A literal translation is there are tears in Oni's eyes. (an unexpected)
It means Even the hard-hearted can be moved to tears...

However,it not all Oni is bad.

SETSUBUN

Hello!!
←My mother bought these food stuffs.
Left side is a Sushi rolls, right side is roasted beans.
Why? Because,today...3rd February is 節分 [Setsubun] day.
Setsybun day is a day before setting-in of spring on the calender.
On this day,we thtow (roasted) beans as saying 「鬼は外!! [Oni Wa Soto]」(means:Evil spirits out!!) and 「福はうち!! [Huku Wa Uchi]」(means:Good fortune in!!).
And then,we pick up and eat the same number of beans as our age. (Or number of as our age plus 1)
Some home do this custom, but now mainly helding in kindergarden, primary school...etc
As for me,just ate beans. haha. (I didn't care number...)

And,we eat Sushi rolls as look to lucky direction.
This year's lucky direction is south-southeast.
This custom hold in west part of Japan,mainly...

How about try these Japanese cutom??

A day in Osaka

Bsicaly I write about Japanese news,information...etc
But in this post,I write about my diary. Can I?? haha.
I went to Osaka 29th January.

←I had lunch at a cafe in Osaka.
I guess European people think cheap.
Because,I've heard that eating out is a pricey in some Europe countries.
This set...soup (there isn't in this photo),salad, bread or rice (eat as much as you like) and ox tongue stew.
It's just 1,000yen.
※ about 7 Euro / about 5 pound / about 8 dollar

→I came across it!!
What do you think of it?
It's a halfway point of the marathon.
There was Osaka international woman's marathon race that same day.
I've never seen it before.
I was surprised that that point was crowded place...

Oh yeah, why did I go there? Becauseo of Jason Mraz live show!!
It has been a long time since I went to INTERPOL live show in last year.
You maight think that there is a big difference between INTERPOL and Jason Mraz.
Yes,I like many sort of music!!!
↑I could meet him and took a photo!! I'm happy.

And,I enjoyed his live show very much!!!!!!
He sings so well!!!
I was glad listend to new 2nd album songs at live.
I was surprised that he sang 「wonderwall」by oasis in his song's interlude...
It was an unexpected!!!

This his Japan tour's titlle was 「Jasonオタク祭り」.
オタク [Otaku] means like...GEEK!! haha.
He likes that word!!
He was wearing a jacket which print 「萌え」.
萌え [Moe] is special Japanse GEEK word. quite poplar now.
(It's difficlut haw to explain to you this word for English.
It means somthing... like... love,pretty,ummm...hard to say...)

Any way,his songs made me happy...
